A Beautiful story of Hope and Passion . . .
Set in late 1960s Riga, Old World charts the relationship between stuffy sanatorium director Rodion and a free-spirited new patient Lydia, as they find themselves bonding over shared memories of loved ones, yet also re-opening old wounds.
Aleksei Arbuzov's play deals with the effects of loss.
Like Russia itself, even to this day, both characters have been severely hurt by the devastation caused by the war with Germany, and it is debateable whether they will ever truly recover.
Old World is a touching story that reveals a little of how modern Russia came to be and a lot about how the past can be kept in its place.
