Two One-Act Plays A Phoenix Too Frequent by Christopher Fry, and Fate's Thread by Stephen Bean A Phoenix Too Frequent - The story of a pious widow, and her maid, mourning her husband at the tomb before his burial. The maid is not quite so pious, yet both women begin to suffer the pangs of their self-imposed hunger. There are signs that they also are unhappy over the loss of male company. When a handsome guard appears the widow begins to regret her noble experiment in withdrawing from the world. The guard is invited to keep the ladies company, and he in turn invites them to partake of his food. Before long the widow is ready to forget her pious devotions. A wonderfully gentle play with many comic moments. Fate's Thread is the story of a successful executive who is murdered by her husband. She becomes a ghost and joins loud-mouthed Alice (who was burned as a witch in 1647) and the prim miss, Harriett (stabbed to death, 1884). She must accept that she was murdered, with the help of Alice and Harriet. Otherwise she will spend eternity in the Sea of Lost Souls. A ghost story, a murder mystery, a light comedy and a race against time to save a soul. 6th - 8th November at Trinity Theatre, Cowes - booking details to follow.
